Flo Enterprises, based in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, is the innovation leader in formulating and manufacturing coatings, adhesives, and specialty polymers which replace petroleum-based and synthetic materials.
FloZein Products has been the premier manufacturer of Zein since 1976
Licensed by the FDA as a food ingredient manufacturer, GMP certified, and USP compliant, our proprietary process produces the highest quality Zein available.
Initially focused on supplying Zein as a raw material for a coating and encapsulation agent for the food, confectionery, and pharma/ nutraceutical industries, FloZein expanded its market penetration in 2013 by developing ready-to-use coatings for specific applications in its existing markets.
More recently, FloZein has developed proprietary zein-based formulations to expand into new areas such as vegan food, coatings for fresh produce to extend shelf life, personal care, and adhesives.

While continuing to be the technical authority, premier manufacturer, and innovator in Zein applications, Flo Enterprises is poised to support the rapid worldwide growth in the demand for Zein.
This will be accomplished through new product development, capacity expansion, strategic partnerships, and manufacturing innovations.

Our company and its products support global mandates to increase the recycling and reuse of materials, demonstrated in the raw materials we source, our manufacturing processes, and the products that we produce. Our products are biobased, vegan, fully sustainable, and full-contact food-safe.
Our products are based on a food ingredient, Zein, a protein of corn which is an incredibly versatile natural polymer:
- A highly effective moisture barrier, it is widely used in the food and pharma/nutraceutical industries for coating and encapsulation.
- Remarkably resistant to bacterial attack, it is the ideal coating to extend the shelf life of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole and shelled nuts, and raw protein.
- It can be spun into filaments, extruded, or cast for use in biodegradable plastics for products such as drinking straws, food containers, and bags.

By-product of corn starch production which is typically used for animal feed.
After the Zein protein is extracted, the remaining feedstock is still used for animal feed BUT with an improved amino acid profile.
Feedstock is upcycled.
Ethanol and water used in process are recovered and reused.
Biobased
Biobased material which is sustainable produced and totally compostable with no chemical residue.
Non-reactive
Crosslinks with a wide variety of ingredients without chemically reacting. Increases stability and useful life of compounds.
Hydrophobic
Highly effective oxygen and vapor barrier. Extends shelf life.
Versatile
Creates a strong, clear film. Can also be molded, extruded, or spun.
